The healthcare industry is mainly composed of hospitals and clinics and the insurance or third party payers such as the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO’s). HMO’s have merged and integrated with their prepaid insurance business since competition has been very close. Some well known HMO companies have either merged or dissolved already due to either improper management on their part or due to bankruptcy. The merging and/or integration of these HMO’s will make the competition better in terms of providing quality service and wider coverage.

HMO’s are critical and becoming major decision makers in the reimbursement of healthcare expenses. Most people with private healthcare insurance enjoy coverage as a benefit of employment. However, only a minority, perhaps 20% to 30% of the 32 million people in the labor force receives this kind of health benefit. Private insurance usually covers the immediate family members of the employees as well. Most private insurance schemes cover around 60% to about 80% of the medical bills, with the patient responsible for paying the difference. Private health insurance is becoming more common, but the rate of growth is slow and is tied closely to overall economic performance.

The market for the healthcare industry has become very attractive especially since there has been a growing number of people who have made their health as a going concern in being able to survive the daily rigors of life. It is no longer a matter of being able to survive and to provide for their families and themselves, but rather how to maintain the best possible health and be physically fit to satisfy such needs.

It is for this reason that the clamor for alternative medical healthcare service providers has been sounded. Health is slowly becoming the top priority among consumers, overtaking the immediate necessities which cannot be obtained ideally considering that being physically unstable or experiencing traumas while going through the motions of their daily lives will as well lower their quality of output and expected achievements. Some parties may have a high tolerance of pain before actually admitting that they are not in the fittest of health, but it will all come down to the survival of the fittest in sustaining their everyday level of competence.

The market for the healthcare industry is in the growth stage. The awareness of consumers regarding the obvious importance of giving due importance to their health prior to their immediate needs has become more evident as the years have been progressing. This can be attributed to the rapid increase and outbreak of diseases that have plagued the country, notably viruses such as AIDS, Typhoid Fever, and SARS or Bird Flu. These are viruses that have been spreading as years pass, and it has been a strict must that the public take the necessary precautions and vaccinations from licensed medical organizations to ensure that they are properly immunized as a protection measure against these dreaded viral attacks.

This has opened the doors for more medical service providers to cater to the various sectors the necessary medical attention and service since it has caught the attention of the public. Health has become a primary concern and this is something that most consumers consider a necessity today to be able to obtain the immediate necessities of living.
