In what seems to be a bizarre turn of events, Clinton Portis from the Washington Redskins proclaims himself fit for the game up against the Baltimore Ravens at the M&T Stadium. It is worth recollecting that Portis has been recuperating from a stiff neck and a sprained knee amongst other health related issues.

Portis has been practicing hard as can be seen from his endeavors during practice sessions. It is one thing though to practice and another to be actually match-fit. Though Portis claims himself to be fit for the game against the Ravens, the medical staff of the Redskins feels otherwise. It must be said here that Jim Zorn, head coach of the Redskins himself has some apprehensions with Portis starting.

In no uncertain words, Jim has hinted that Portis could play the game, but if there is any possibility of him playing, the decision could be delayed until playtime. Clearly, in saying so Jim is trying to achieve two objectives - 1) He does not wish to reveal the trump card of Washington Redskins too soon, and 2) He wishes to keep the Ravens guessing about the game plan of the Washington Redskins.

So much for the analysis, but is Portis really fit? That seems to be the question on the minds of supporters of Washington Redskins. The opinion here clearly seems to be divided because some of them say he is fit enough to start while some others believe it could take him a month or so, to play a game.

How are the stakes lined up for the game? Well, the Washington Redskins are clocking at 7-5 and the Ravens are at 8-4. With a 7-5 record, the Washington Redskins desperately wish to win their tie against the Ravens, which would take them to playoffs. Jim's thought of playing Portis for this game thus acquires some significance, especially knowing what Portis could bring to the table.

Football is clearly a game of strength and stamina, and you would find that Portis does not lack either. He runs fast and aggressive, and could clearly be an asset for the Washington Redskins. More so with the Ravens, who have a slightly suspect back line. Facing up to Portis speed and aggression would be two of his old mates - Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, two players who Portis knows very well. Importantly, Portis knows their game at the back of his hands; hence having him in the team could only be advantageous.

What happens on match day is anybody's guess? One thing is for sure though - There has been enough mystery over the inclusion of Portis for the Ravens game. What may tilt the scale in his favor would be his face-off with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed! It surely is going to be mayhem at the M&T Stadium. As both teams practice it out, one pair of eyes is definitely looking upwards. No guesses on who that would be!
