Despite the tough times ahead, leave it to the big names of the showbiz industry to try and cheer up those lonesome faces as entertainment is the best form of therapy that anyone can look up to right now.

2008 saw the rise and return of stars that included popular names like Britney Spears, Hugh Jackman, Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie. It also saw the controversies come to a new high. Among the names included:

1. Paris Hilton
2. Miley Cyrus
3. Lindsay Lohan

Surely, these three have a lot more left for us and is interesting to note when they would get a bit more on the lighter side of popularity rather than controversy.

We also had our share of breakups, the last of which was the much celebrated divorce of Madonna and Guy Ritchie. Then Michael Jackson was his usual self, being in the limelight for a reported financial dispute to which he eventually settled. The last about him was that fake allegation with regards of a lung problem to which is still lingering out there with regards to the truth of it all. Was it a cover-up or something that was mainly for publicity purposes?

And so welcome 2009. Who are the stars to watch? A lot! For one, expect the top names of 2008 to pick up where they left off. Miley Cyrus for one is expected to make another impact and so with Hugh Jackman with the launch of Marvel Origins’ “Wolverine”. Jackman has been busy and among them include the much criticized film “Australia” where he played opposite Nicole Kidman.

Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have earned the moniker of the scandal divas of the entertainment industry and chances are they will continue to do so for them to retain their niche in the popularity of celebrities binge. What will they do for 2009 to make them among the headliners?

Angelina Jolie is expected to make another impact as well. After her celebrated birth of twins to Brad Pitt, she has been rumored to be in the next Dark Knight film to play Catwoman. Should this fall through, expect the Dark Knight to come out with another much anticipated blockbuster, the last of which starred the death of movie icon Heath Ledger.

Ledger was another fixture. While his death was untimely, his performance was something worthy of an Oscar. He played the Joker role magnificently and sad to say that it was also the last film that he ever made that was worthy of a standing ovation.

Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Tom Cruise were quiet this year but expect them to come out with great films which may be in the form of sequels to their signature movies. Comedians are also expected to come out with their own list of films since most of them were sleepers for 2008.

Tom Hanks is sorely being missed as well. Ever since his much awarded series of films like Forrest Gump and Cast Away, Hanks has been absent in the movie industry. Expect him to come up with something for 2009. He is too good of a talent to pass up the competition so a lot is being expected from him soon.
