Some of the moves coming out from the camp of the Suns are intriguing and strange at best. Raja Bell and Boris Diaw sent to Charlotte Bobcats and Jason Richardson in exchange - Surely, the news could not have gotten weirder than this. What seems to be surprising is that - The skills of Richardson especially is way different than what Bell had to offer. So, why this exchange anyways? The starting reports are surprising yet true.
Bell, apparently was unhappy with his game and the position he was playing. Too frequently, Raja Bell was asked to switch roles. Terry Porter, the coach of Phoenix Suns believed a lot in the capability of Bell. Per Porter, Bell was a guy who could change the fortunes of the game single-handedly. Bell being upset on Porter's tactics not only grew morose by the day, but also allowed his game to be hit. That really was it for Porter.
It seemed he had enough of Bell's antics and opted to go for an offensive stopper. Richardson, who is more of an aggressor, may not be fitting well as a stopper but he adds a lot of dimensions to his game, which is something that Porter wants from his players. The way it is working for Porter now is - He wishes to have players filling in multiple roles with them not sacrificing their primary roles.
Richardson, with his playing strengths, is believed to work on the logic of Porter well. But Porter, at some stage of the championship is sure to have a problem on his hands. He now has Richardson, Steve Nash, Shaq O'Neal, and Amare Stoudiemere. Each of them attackers in their own right! Who in the world is ever going to stop the rampaging Kobe Bryant? That seems to be the question Porter is struggling to answer.
Now, the real problem is - Has Bell's departure from the Suns created some void? Not really because he was unhappy anyways. James Richardson on the other hand, may just work as a superb replacement for Bell. Playing alongside Nash in the team would just be something that could work for Richardson. To the naked eye, it seems like a winning combination with all four of them promising to attack the opposition citadel at all times in the game.
Whether or not the ploy would work, one has to see the games coming up next. But one thing for sure - Looking at the combination that Porter intends to play against, some excitement is bound to build up at the forward line! Not sure if the same could be said about the defensive line, as it anyways looks a touch weak now. Teams with rampaging players like Kobe Bryant would not have to break a lot of sweat to break the defense line. These surely are going to be exciting times for the Suns.
