A lot of matches in the league have gone by. Some defeats that have been handed out were humiliating. Some shocking to say the least! But when the hooter blew in the match of the Bobcats against the Hornets, neither could one see the despondency nor could one see the regret of losing the match! Yes, there was that odd whine, but all of them evaporated in thin air quickly around one player.
D.J. Augustin it was - He was clearly responsible for the mood switch over in the camp, which otherwise would have been pretty somber. For a long time now, Augustin used to sit on the upper tier of the stadium and dreamt of running the court, especially against the Hornets. Here he was playing in his first professional NBA match as a player and run he did. People who saw him play were clearly surprised if this was his first match indeed.
Displaying raw power and aggression, Augustin looked all but playing in his first match. He clocked 28 points, his best, with seven assists and four steals. No mean statistics for any player in a match. Clearly, Augustin seems to be looking forward in terms of other games that he intends to play with the Bobcats. As for the Hornets, it is a point taken that they won the match. But clearly, they seemed left shaken by the heroics of Augustin.
Obviously, the coach and the support staff had nothing but praise for the kid. Coach Brown quipped, "It was just awesome to see him play like a Pro. A lot of kids stutter in their first games due to pressure at this level. But with Augustin on display, it was just an absolute treat to watch". Now, those are some big words coming from a guy, who everyone else in the Bobcats camp think is a taskmaster.
Brown believes that that there is more to Augustin's game that makes him believe that he could be a player for the future. He was seen discussing tips along with some other senior pros of the Bobcats after the game. This as per Brown, is a healthy sign because as per him, it shows that the kid is willing to learn. The friends and relatives present at the dome to watch Augustin play like the way he did, were thoroughly overjoyed by the performance.
Looking ahead, Brown would be working with Augustin to iron out some small flaws in his technique. It may look early days yet but then looking at the way Augustin played, it is a matter of time when opponents figure the kid's game out. That is one big threat that he should keep an eye on. At all times, Augustin should strive to improve himself and his game. If he does so, he could be the next big thing in the league.
