The green movement is one campaign that will surely never fade in many aspects of society. It is because people are now more aware of the degraded condition of our environment and the steps needed to preserve it for the future generations. By going green, people are on the safe and healthy side with nothing to lose but everything to gain.

In the electric industry, going green is a growing trend. With numerous renewable energy sources available today, there’s no reason for industry players not to utilize these natural resources. They and the public in general have so much to benefit from using these alternative energy sources. Various benefits can be gained from them such as less operating cost and big savings, less emissions and steady supply of energy.

One example of a renewable energy that is being widely used today in the different parts of the world is solar energy. Solar energy has become a viable option due to the fact that it does not pollute the environment and its supply is inexhaustible. Solar power or photovoltaic power generation has carved a niche in the market and has led to the development of more advanced technology. Solar power generation entails the use of photovoltaic (PV) systems which convert sunlight into AC current.

In 2008, lightweight solar flat plate collectors that can be easily mounted on the roof at a lower angle and low profile collectors were introduced by solar companies. The use of solar thin film technology was also praised due to its many benefits such as lower cost, higher efficiency and flexibility in its applications. The thin film is normally made from pliant sheets of foil and when mounted on the roof are more attractive to look at compared to the heavy glass panels.

Another positive development reported during the American Solar Energy Society conference in 2008 pertained to solar power production. Solar power generation worldwide has gone up by 62 percent with the U.S. on top producing 220 MW which accounts for 57 percent of the world market.

From these findings, it is safe to conclude then that solar power usage has indeed spread in many areas and is no longer limited to the farms as urban centers are now benefitting from it as well. Even homes today can already opt to use solar power systems notably on the rooftop or on the patio area. What’s even great about using solar power at home is that homeowners can avail of government tax rebates which means additional savings for you and your family.

With energy prices still on a high level and electricity rates going up, solar power is a perfect alternative to budget conscious homeowners. While it may be expensive to initially install a solar power system, the savings that you gain in the coming years will be more than enough to recover the amount you first spent for installation purposes.
Author Resource:- G&S Electric, Inc. is a Phoenix family owned electrical contractor and solar company with licensed and insured electricians.
