As a gambler you can almost feel yourself transformed from a normal , everyday person to a mean , lean and lucky gambling machine. Las Vegas does that to so many people. It’s so overwhelming , you almost become a different person when you’re there. I’ve heard people who don’t gamble say that and people who do gamble know it’s true.
In Las Vegas , you won’t see a clock unless you look for one. And if you live there, it’s very easy to see the days run into nights and the days and nights run into weeks. Especially if you don’t work and you’re a gambler in pursuit of the Las Vegas dream. It’s hard to imagine , yet there are many people who live in that world. I personally have been caught up in it for a couple weeks at a time and my body just can’t handle it. I look ten years older by the time I finally return home and that’s after a win because where I might weather the storm in Mississippi , I don’t try it in Las Vegas. If I’m winning, I stay but if I’m losing, I catch the quickest flight home.
However, things are different in Mississippi. The southern charms of the casino towns and the people that live in them aren’t necessarily what entice a gambler to visit initially but it certainly brings them back year after year. You can get away from the action easier in Mississippi than you can in Las Vegas . And you can enjoy the hospitality of some of the finest hotels and most elaborate resorts the south has to offer complete with beautiful swimming pools and green manicured golf courses.
Sure , Las Vegas has plenty of pools and golf courses. However, when you’re swimming or sunbathing at a Las Vegas pool, you still know you’re very much in Las Vegas. Go to a Mississippi destination and the pool area doesn’t scream casino and gambling . In fact most likely, you’ll be looking over wide open fields of what used to be cotton fields or in Biloxi, over the quieted bay area.
Mississippi casinos offer the serious player a great get-away without being in the midst of all the tall mega-resort style buildings. Players still have great gambling opportunities throughout the entire state of Mississippi but they don’t feel like it’s the only thing to do. And while Las Vegas houses some of the most wonderful restaurants in the world, has some of the most entertaining show venues and provides tours to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam , it is still non-stop casino gambling action 24 hours a days, 7 days a week and I love it but I still prefer Mississippi unless a major sporting event is coming up.
Patrons of Mississippi casinos find that most of the hotel rooms are still comparable to the Las Vegas hotel rooms and the gambling is still comparable to Las Vegas style gaming but where the difference is lies in the quality of care the players receive. Complimentary sporting event tickets range from tickets to see the Memphis Grizzlies to sending players to a full service day spa in Tunica at one of the hotels which have some of the most luxurious spas and salons.
Mississippi is still very much old school in a lot of ways too. Players find that they appreciate the fact that their host will call them up just to say “ hi and how have you been?” It isn’t unusual to find a player development host working the casino floor several times during the day and out on the golf course with his buddies ( players ) later on that same day. The difference is that this host will likely have his ‘buddies’ wives out in a limousine shopping for the day insuring that everyone is happy and content. It’s that personal service which keeps players coming back.
You might say that you have that same attention in Las Vegas and if you do, then you likely wager a lot more than I do. However, playing reckless in Mississippi buys you a lot more favor than playing reckless in Las Vegas. When I say ‘reckless’ I’m referring to players who play like they have fistfuls of hundred dollar bills to burn. Las Vegas sees this kind of action daily but in Mississippi , you’ll be treated with VIP treatment and you can pretty well name your price while the casinos swoon for your business.
Overall, you will enjoy a good time , a great gamble and make friends a long the way. I’ve learned a lot from my Mississippi friends and have grown very fond of Biloxi, Tunica and Choctaw. You may like it too and should definitely try one of these areas for a change of scenery; just not during the Super Bowl when Vegas will be the only destination on the itinerary.
