Not only are flies a nuisance when they are around the home but they do also bring diseases with them both to human beings and domestic animals.

Over the years, flies have been said to be spreading diseases like malaria, typhoid fever, anthrax, leprosy, cholera, conjunctivitis, tuberculosis, dysentery and diarrhea in human beings. They cause parasitic tape worms on poultry or parasitic tape worms on horses.

Flies increase rapidly during warmer seasons this means that diseases will now have to spread faster if proper hygiene is not observed in our homes. Here is a reason for you to prepare for the fly season in order to reduce the spread of diseases. Flies are known to carry bacteria in their feet and mouths that cause mastitis. These flies do not transmit diseases by biting but rather the moist materials of food particles that remain in their mouthparts when they feed contain bacteria that will be transferred to a different place where the fly will land to feed or even to rest. Flies like feeding on rotten plants or any decaying matter, from there they will leak milk that has mastitis bacteria.

When this fly that has leaked the milk containing mastitis bacteria bites the thin skin of a cow’s teat, they cause a lot of damage and irritation that leads to formation of wounds. The teats are exposed to bacteria’s like staphylococcus that grow in the wounds. As it is with any open wound in the teat, it will lead to mastitis. In calves, flies feed on the moraxella bacteria that cause pinkeyes that are found in calves discharge and tears. Pinkeye spread rapidly from calve to calve when the flies population is high.

Kala-azar is a rare disease caused by sand fly. It spreads through sand fly and is a parasite in nature. It affects the skin membrane and in most cases can cause membrane ulcers. It is spread by fly biting; for example, when a fly bites an infected animal it transmits the disease to human beings.

Dysentery can be transmitted in human through the food. When we leave our food uncovered the flies come and leak them with the moist materials that remain in their mouths after feeding on the decayed materials they carry bacteria with them that causes dysentery. Flies like moist places and are attracted to smell of fermenting materials. They can transmit parasitic worms that cause skin infection in human beings and leaves droppings on food and utensils that makes the food contaminate.

Bacteria that causes cholera is found in human feces and is carried by flies that will come and feed on our food and water that we drink.

When we consume food that is contaminated or water we contact typhoid, it is a food borne disease and is caused by a bacteria called salmonella typhy, flies transmits the bacteria causing this disease. Malaria which is the most dangerous disease in the world is spread by mosquitoes; it transmits the disease from one person to the other through biting.
