If the cards were truly random, all the games would play out the same. Serious players know the real truth is that the cards are clumped. Believing in random cards is like believing in leprechauns. We will be using a few terms that may be unfamiliar to you, but for now, know that “clumping” and “non-random” mean the same thing. Clumping is a bit more descriptive in that it describes the way in which the cards are non-random. It means that low cards follow low cards and high cards follow high cards more often than random math percentages dictate.

If clumping is not accidental, then what causes it? Not counting the wash, we have identified five major causes of clumping.

* Game Clumping: The actual rules of the game cause the first level of clumping. Here is an example: You are dealt a 4 and a 2 against a dealer 10. You hit and get a 5, 2, 2, and a 3, and stand on 18. Whether you win or not is not the issue. But, according to the rules, the dealer will pick up your cards in order and place a six card, low clump into the discard rack. Those are six cards at the very least. Once this clump is placed in the discard rack, it is very likely to survive the shuffle, and be present in the next shoe. Usually, the dealer only shuffles each card about three times. Sometimes, she shuffles less.

If you play poker, you will know that if a dealer shuffled only three times, the end result would be some very good hands for the players. In actual fact, you would probably complain or listen to others complain that the cards should have been shuffled more than they were. But, shuffling does not have as much impact on the cards as you might think. Look at the wash. New decks are shuffled together, spread on the table and mixed (or washed), and shuffled again. It looks impressive. But, as we noted earlier, as the cards are dealt, we can still detect remnants of the boxed sequential order of cards. So, in our example, we can expect that low card clump to create a high card clump elsewhere in the shoe, and watch the viral impact as clumping begets clumping begets clumping until we have reached the beginning of the soak cycle. Think of it as your computer getting entirely fragmented. First Base Blackjack (FBB) defragments the game.

* Break Card Clumping: Break card clumping creates the extreme clumping that effectively changes the odds of the game. In our example above,…….

* Player Influenced Clumping: The more the merrier. The more players that there are in a game, the more effective break card clumping will be. A head to head game, or even a two player game…….

* Shuffle Induced Clumping: There is more than one type of shuffle. Sometimes you can hear pit bosses call out a shuffle code much like an NFL quarterback, “Blue! Forty-two!” Casinos are…….

* Dealer Induced Clumping: Different dealers have different long-term win rates. Why? Like snowflakes, no two dealers handle the cards the same way. It is a mundane job, and…….

(Casino Shuffle Tactics….)

The cornerstone of First Base Blackjack (FBB) is non-random cards. Accordingly, we will devote a significant amount of time substantiating that the cards are not random in multi-deck games. We will divulge the secret to why this is neither theory nor hypothesis, but the truth. The foundation of Basic Strategy AND card counting is random cards. We will prove to you, beyond a reasonable doubt, that these antiquated methods rely upon a basic tenet that is obsolete.
